Burns Lake Dam Renovations and Declassification

Modernizing Burns Lake Dam for Long-Term Performance
PeoplesQuigley | DCCM was engaged by Burns Golf Course, LLC in 2019 to inspect Burns Lake Dam, a 500-ft long, 25.6-ft high Category I structure serving as a critical irrigation supply for the golf course. Our team developed an Action Plan to address maintenance needs and compliance issues noted by the GA DNR EPD – Safe Dams Program. Renovation plans included lowering the existing dam and adding a small upper embankment to reduce storage capacity, ultimately making the dam exempt from state regulation. Additionally, a change order was approved to install HydroTurf as emergency spillway reinforcement, marking the first Category I dam in Georgia approved for this innovative application. PeoplesQuigley | DCCM provided permitting support, bidding assistance, and ongoing construction phase services. These improvements enhance dam safety, regulatory compliance, and long-term operational reliability, while supporting the golf course’s irrigation needs.
