Phenix City Silver Lake & Lakewood Park Dam Inspections and Repairs
Russell County, Alabama
Restoring Safety at Silver Lake & Lakewood Park Dams
The City of Phenix City owns and operates six dams, including the historic Silver Lake Dam and Lakewood Park Dam, both constructed in the late 1800s for water storage. With Alabama lacking formal dam safety regulations, PeoplesQuigley | DCCM was engaged to inspect all city-owned dams and provide recommendations for improvements. Our team conducted detailed inspections, prepared topographic mapping, and developed construction documents for emergency repairs and renovations, including vegetation and piping removal, erosion control, and masonry restoration. During the project, Silver Lake Dam required emergency repair of a leaking raw water main, while Lakewood Park Dam needed sinkhole remediation. We coordinated closely with contractors and the city to implement revised repair strategies, ensuring completion despite challenges posed by a large watershed and siltation. Through these efforts, PeoplesQuigley | DCCM enhanced the safety, reliability, and long-term functionality of these historic dams, protecting the community and critical water resources.
